Chapter 9 Activities

We recommend printing a copy of the directions for each activity before proceeding to the designated websites.

Activity A

While surfing on the Internet just before Halloween, one of your sixth grade students discovers a Website called Home of the Celebrity Dead Pool http://www.stiffs.com.  The student is intrigued by the ghoulish graphics and the concept of the Website and wants you to share the site with the rest of the class.

  1. How might you use this situation to stimulate critical thinking and/or a discussion about censorship?
  2. What are the dangers to the students?
  3. What are the dangers to you as a teacher?

Activity B

Use your Web browser to find information about comets, unicorns, or the Tower of London (or other topics your instructor may suggest) from one or more Websites. Use this information to create a K-W-L lesson plan.
