Global Science is not just another science course. It is a truly integrated science course that explores the wonders of our planet. It teaches students how to best use science to understand and manage our planets' resources.
Global Science is flexible. This outstanding laboratory-based program can be taught over one semester, one year, or two years. The flexible scheduling incorporated into this program allows for 45-55 minute classes or block scheduling. The schedules for these class options are provided in the back of the Global Science Teacher Guide for teacher ease and to save time on preparation.
Global Science is hands-on.
Hands-on lab-based instruction provides students the ability to learn science by doing science. Global Science can be taught without giving a single lecture through cost-effective activities.

Activity-Based
Global Science is lab-driven. Every main concept is covered in an activity. These activities provide students with direct hands-on experiences with the major themes of the course. Comprehension is much greater after students have had first-hand experience with the concept to be taught. All 130+ activities from the Student Text are also provided on the Teacher Resource CD-ROM (TRCD) for easy accessibility to print and hand out as worksheets (see the Components section for more TRCD information).
Integrated Text
Global Science integrates energy, resources, and the environment by covering these science disciplines: Physics, Physical Science, Chemistry, Earth and Life sciences.
The integrated approach makes it easier to emphasize relevant topics. This approach works well because real-world events do not usually separate out by scientific discipline.
Standards-Based, NSF-Funded
The National Science Education Content Standards are integrated in format. Most state standards mirror the National Content Standards. Global Science is correlated to the National Science Education Content Standards (NRC) and the Standards of the North American Association of Environmental Education (NAAEE), along with selected state standards (see the Correlations section of Global Science). Global Science received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Incorporated Technology
The Global Science curriculum includes:
- Global Science Explorer CD-ROM
- Global Science Student Edition CD-ROM
- Teacher Resource CD-ROM
- ExamView Testbank CD-ROM
- SciLinks® integrated into the text
See the Components section for further information on these technology components.
SciLinks®
Global Science incorporates SciLinks® into the text with integrated symbols into each chapter where students can locate up-to-date Web sites that tie to a topic in the chapter and can be used as additional resources. SciLinks® are updated and maintained by NSTA for relevance and accuracy.
