The transition to college from homemaking, work, or high school is a tremendously difficult one. This difficulty  is not primarily due, however, to an inability to think critically, take good notes, or develop appropriate study habits. Those, and many other skills, are factors, but not the most critical ones. The most important factor in successfully transitioning into college is the ability to negotiate the culture shock students experience when they enter the academic world. College is a unique culture and community unto itself. It has its own values, beliefs, and behaviors; it has its own ways of thinking, questioning, and communicating. These values can conflict with the values that students hold as they enter the college community. College Knowledge seeks to help students understand, appreciate, and participate in college culture.
