SIMMS Integrated Mathematics
The SIMMS Integrated Mathematics curriculum is a complete NCTM Standards-based mathematics program. Developed for all students, SIMMS Integrated Mathematics involves real world contexts and incorporates a modeling approach using technology.
The curriculum is designed to replace all grade 9-12 mathematics courses, with the possible exception of advanced placement courses. Each level includes work in algebra, geometry, probability, statistics, data analysis and discrete mathematics. Other mathematics topics such as trigonometry, matrices, conics, vectors, logic, logarithms, and parametric equations are included at appropriate levels. Less traditional high school topics such as graph theory, game theory, and chaos theory are also included in the program.
The SIMMS Integrated Mathematics Curriculum takes full advantage of appropriate technology. For each level, students must have ready access to a graphing utility which includes spreadsheet-like functions. In some modules a geometry utility and a symbolic manipulator are also useful.
SIMMS (Systemic Initiative for Montana Mathematics and Science) Integrated Mathematics was developed by the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics through a State Systemic Initiative Award from the National Science Foundation.
