ChemDiscovery
ChemDiscovery, by Olga Agapova, Loretta Jones, and Alexey Ushakov, is an interactive multimedia high school chemistry curriculum developed for students and teachers with differing abilities, spheres of interest, and backgrounds. Instead of a textbook, this curriculum is presented in a new educational format--a computerized, open-learning system on CD-ROM with accompanying student and teacher materials.
Each quest begins with an overview that identifies the design goal of the quest and a context within which to view the quest. ChemDiscovery includes learning tools such as Design of the Universe (Designing), Living in the Universe (Living), Activities, Resources, Databases, Design Studios (DesStudio), Computation Laboratories (Compulab), Index.
Being an innovative learning environment, a ChemDiscovery classroom changes the roles of teachers from lecturers to facilitators and collaborators, providing the possibility to work independently. Teachers have customized and adapted ChemDiscovery to the needs of individual students which has led to maintaining interest and high achievement levels throughout the school year.
