Middle School Life Science, Third Edition, meets the needs of all students better than most science programs because it is designed around the learning cycle--that is, concepts are introduced with hands-on experiences and then developed through discussions, mini-lectures, and/or readings.
Middle School Life Science doesn't want to be "a mile wide and an inch deep." It does not try to cover every biology topic, but instead focuses on key concepts and develops them for a greater overall understanding of science by the students.
Students are also provided with opportunities to apply the concepts they have just learned.
This approach provides the concrete experiences that are so important for students with learning disabilities while also providing the solid science experiences that can motivate gifted students.

Standards-Based

Quality Assessment
While most programs have answer keys, they are often fill-in-the-blank, providing for only one-word answers that are often so obvious that the answer key is not even necessary. Middle School Life Science features comprehensive answers for open-ended questions. Teachers can get a better feel for what students have actually learned, as well as allowing the students to express their understanding in a way that best represents their learning style.
Curiousity-Based
Middle school students can be some of the most inquisitive of all people. Perhaps the most important feature in an educational program is that it's FUN. If the material is not interesting or fun, it so much harder to involve students. Support their natural curiosity and help them take a proactive approach to their own learning.

Written by the Best
[Jefferson County Public Schools in Golden, Colorado Judy Capra, Principal Author / Harold Pratt, Project Advisor / District Life Science Teachers.]
Middle School Life Science was written by actual classroom teachers. With their many years of classroom experience, they know what works. They know what will best prepare their students for future learning. But this program is even more than that. It is a group effort involving many people--scientists, teachers, parents, other educators, and, of course, students. Students worked through all the activities and experiments with the educators to insure value and suitability.
