Theme Books Books are the driving force behind Pathways. Each thematic study features books chosen for their:
- high interest
- literary and content values
- range of topics and genres
Supplementary titles are suggested in the Daily Lesson Guides, allowing teachers and students the option of expanding each theme with one or more books. |

Writer's Handbook The Writer's Handbook is a student resource that includes word lists and covers of these topics:
Contractions · Abbreviations · Alphabetical order · Punctuation · Grammar · Prefixes and suffixes · Capitalization · Mechanics
- The Writer's Handbook also address:
- How to write a letter
- The different forms of writing
- Using a dictionary
- Learning strategies
Students keep this guide on their desks as a handy reference to use throughout the day. During Writing Workshop, the Handbook serves as a tool for teaching mini-lessons about strategies or forms of writing.

Phonics Student Workbook The Chall-Popp Phonics Program assists students in learning the major phonological patterns in our language.
The Student Workbook is a write-in text and is the only consumable component of Pathways.

Phonics Readers Phonics Readers are incorporated into the phonics program, helping students transition into independent readers. The books keep students engaged while polishing phonics skills.

Daily Lesson Guide A Daily Lesson Guide accompanies each theme title. It is the day-to-day teaching plan for each thematic study. The Daily Lesson Guides feature:
- Detailed instructional plans for teaching comprehension, writing, literacy, and word-structure skills within a cross-curricular and thematic focus.
- Spiritual connections integrated into the reading instructional plan.
- Extension activities in each unit for art, Bible, drama, health, mathematics, science, and social studies.

Phonics Teacher's Edition The Chall-Popp Phonics Program forms the basis for the explicit, sequential approach to phonics instruction in Pathways.

The Random House Book of Poetry for Children Poetry is used throughout the themes in Pathways. Accordingly, it is recommended that a copy of The Random House Book of Poetry for Children: A Treasury of 572 Poems for Today's Child be purchased for each classroom.

Basic Reading Inventory Basic Reading Inventory contains individually administered informal reading assessments to identify student weaknesses in reading. It explains how to administer, score, and interpret the basic reading inventory. A multimedia CD-ROM with video clips demonstrating administration of a reading inventory is included. |
