Welcome to the world of PEGASUS II! Organized around broad themes and a scope and sequence of skills, PEGASUS II uses award-winning trade books that children want to read to deliver the skills that they need. Through quality literature, children not only learn to read, they also develop a life-long love of reading and, in turn, of learning!
PEGASUS Beginnings
PEGASUS was originally developed by teachers and students in the Kalispell, Montana school district. These teachers wanted a program that would deliver the skills students need to learn through the motivating literature they love to read. Unable to find this type of program, they put aside their lives for three years to write, research, and write again. PEGASUS is the only reading program developed and written entirely by the troops in the trenches and their students. Continuing that tradition, PEGASUS II has been revised by teachers located throughout the United States. Dr. Carol Santa, senior author and editor of PEGASUS, is the former language arts coordinator of the Kalispell, Montana school district and the 1999 president of the International Reading Association (IRA). Carol is the author of Early Steps: Learning from a Reader and is one of the program developers for Project CRISS.
