Janine L. Nieroda-Madden

Janine L. Nieroda-Madden is an assistant teaching professor at Syracuse University where she teaches courses in college learning strategies and teaching methods for undergraduate and graduate students in secondary English Education. She received her Ph.D. from Syracuse University in Literacy Education, awarded with distinction. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropology from Binghamton University and her Master’s degree in English Education from Columbia University Teachers College. Dr. Nieroda-Madden began her work within the department of Reading & Language Arts at Syracuse University in 2010 wherein she has continued to teach courses in college learning strategies, materials and methods in secondary English Education, multicultural education, and adolescent literature. Prior to attending Syracuse University, Dr. Nieroda-Madden was an instructor at Cornell University’s John S. Knight Writing Institute for Writing in the Disciplines. Dr. Nieroda-Madden was also a tenured secondary English teacher and worked in urban and suburban schools within New York State for eight years prior to pursuing her doctorate at Syracuse University. Dr. Nieroda-Madden’s research focuses on critical multicultural education theory and practice; multimodal and digital literacies in cross-cultural contexts; literacy and global health; and instruction and assessment of college learning strategies.
