• Addresses the challenges in nursing, the nursing shortage, issues with retention, and the challenges that face student nurses. Estimates are that at least 75,000 qualified applicants in 2011 were turned away from admission to nursing schools due to an insufficient number of faculty, shortage of clinical sites, a lack of classroom space, minimal qualified preceptors for the clinical setting, and financial constraints of individual colleges.
